“Serious art is born from serious play.” ― Julia Cameron, The Artist's Way: A Spiritual Path to Higher Creativity
Unleashing creativing can feel pretty hard at first. The walls preventing us to be in touch with our creative selves are moments we call "writer's block", however, it is up to us to decide if we want to let "writer's block" be powerful in our lives.
Everyone has a creative spirit in them. At times, we may not even notice that creative spirit is present because we are so wrapped up in our the daily routine that we forget to be in touch with our core and the small things that the world offers us. The creative spirit is what nudges our senses, telling us what smells great, what looks beautiful and what feels right.
Being in touch with this spirit can help someone start feeling more relaxed in the day to day errands. It's basically the child in you that wants to play, learn, understand, ask questions and be in touch with the environment.
Here are a few tips on how to get in touch with that creative spirit and unleash your artistic self:
1) Constantly Feed Your Inspiration
Feeling those bursts of inspiration enlightens us. It's the upkeep of this high that is the difficult part. You must constantly feed this insipration. Create, create and create, and/or hang out with likeminded people that make you feel empowered. After all, you are your closest friends
2) Just Pick Up the Pencil and Do Something
Don't overthink it. Just write, draw, paint - listen to the voice in your head and write down all of it's thoughts. Listening to the conscience that wants to pay attention to the beauty in the world will help kill the thoughts that tell you "What you're doing wrong" and place them with "What you're doing right".
3) Be in Nature
Absorb the world around you. Go outside, take a walk and pay attention to the small details in life that we may forget about in the midst of the business.
4) Have Fun
What is the point of living if we are not living to be happy? Have fun. Explore. Go let your inner artist play and absorb the world around us. You'll be surprised on what you can learn from the listening to the world
These are a few tips that need consistency to be valuable. Slowly but surely, you'll start to see yourself acknowledge the free spirit in you that has been trying to get out and have fun.
